White Reveals Possible Change in Plans Following Failed Negotiations With Nate Diaz

According to UFC President Dana White, the rumored UFC 202 rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz may not be happening after all.

The reason? The UFC has still not yet come to terms on a deal with Nate Diaz for the fight. According to White, Diaz and his team asked for a new deal going into UFC 202, which the UFC has not been willing to grant. According to reports, White angrily left a lunch meeting with Diaz and his agent after the subject of a new deal was broached.

It was widely assumed that a rematch between McGregor and Diaz would be taking place at UFC 202 in August. McGregor is reportedly "obsessed" with the idea of the rematch, though it looks as though there is a possibility that the fight might not happen. McGregor has reportedly signed on for the fight, though Diaz is a different story. Diaz is of the opinion that his opportunities for a big payday are limited, and that he needs to make as much money as possible from this fight.

With the Diaz rematch potentially not happening, the UFC has now turned their attention to possibly finding a new opponent for McGregor. Whether this is just a negotiating tactic for the UFC is another story, though they are apparently moving ahead with a potential new fight for McGregor.

There are several options that the UFC could pursue, including:

McGregor vs Edgar/Aldo winner later in the year
McGregor vs dos Anjos/Alvarez winner in the year
McGregor vs a Lightweight such as Donald Cerrone

I can't see the UFC waiting on booking McGregor for a fight, as they will likely want him to fight this summer and once again for the Featherweight title later in the year.

My gut reaction says that the McGregor/Diaz II fight eventually gets worked out - if that doesn't go through, a McGregor/Cerrone fight would seem to make sense, given that Edgar/Aldo/dos Anjos/Alvarez are all currently booked for title fights.
