April 10th, 2010 is a day that will live in infamy forever for the UFC.

On this date, the promotion made its first trip to Abu Dhabi to host a numbered card. This was a big deal for the company, as they had recently sold a significant stake of their company to an investor in the area and they wanted to put on a good show for their new partner.

The main event of the card looked to be fantastic - Demian Maia vs Anderson "The Spider" Silva, who was the dominant Middleweight champion at the time.

The main event, however, didn't go as planned. Anderson Silva was disinterested in the fight and felt as though Maia had disrespected him, which caused Silva to mock his opponent over the course of the five round fight. The result? A farcical main event that had the fans booing. UFC President Dana White was so angry with the fight that he refused to put the belt around Silva's waist - in addition, he verbally lashed out at Silva after the fight, stating that the Middleweight champion might be relegated to prelims if he continued his behavior.

Fast forward to 2016. Demian Maia, now in the Welterweight division, is looking to get another shot at a title with a win over Carlos Condit this Saturday. The fight will serve as the main event for the promotion's UFC on Fox card.

Maia, who is the division's #4 ranked fighter, has won his last five contests in a row. Maia's grappling game is as smothering as ever, plus he has added some decent striking to the mix. In short, Maia is a very tough out.

Carlos Condit, however, always comes to fight and is one of the promotion's most dynamic strikers. As we've seen before, however, the fight could be over if Maia manages to take things to the ground.

With Rory MacDonald moving to Bellator and GSP still up in the air as to his return, this might be the perfect opportunity for Demian Maia to finally earn another shot at the title. Carlos Condit is standing in his way, however, and will likely have something to say about it on Saturday night.
