Dominick Cruz Pulls Out of Fight After Suffering Torn Groin

The bad news continues for former Bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz, as he was forced to pull out of his planned Bantamweight title unification fight with Renan Barao at UFC 169.

Dominick Cruz had been on the shelf since 2011, as he was rehabilitating a major knee injury. Cruz finally seemed to be getting healthy, and he was scheduled to take on Renan Barao in the main event of UFC 169. Barao had been the interim Bantamweight champion since defeating Urijah Faber in July of 2012 at UFC 149.

Unfortunately for Cruz, the injury bug struck once again, as he suffered a torn groin and was forced to withdraw from UFC 169. In his place, Urijah Faber, who is currently in the midst of a four fight winning streak and was going to get the winner of Cruz/Barao anyways. Faber keeps himself in good shape at all times and eagerly accepted the fight against Barao.

Faber/Barao will headline UFC 169, and the winner will be the official Bantamweight title holder, as Cruz dropped the title suffering his most recent injury.

The "good" news for Dominick Cruz, if you can call it that, is that he is still just 28 years of age. Let's hope that he can make a full recovery. If he does, don't be surprised if he is granted an immediate title shot.

Many people feel as though Faber/Barao II is the more compelling fight anyways, as Cruz likely would have been suffering from some major ring rust, while Faber has looked absolutely fantastic in recent fights.
