UFC Promises "Big Fight Announcement" For UFC 178

UFC 178: Jones vs Cormier, which is already ridiculously stacked, is still looking for its co-main event.

The speculation for the co-main event for this card seems to be squarely centered around one name - Donald Cerrone. Cerrone was initially booked to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov on this card, but Khabib was forced to pull out due to injury.

There was a rumor that Cerrone/Diaz II would be added to the card, though the UFC doesn't seem to have worked out their issues with Nate Diaz as of yet. Diaz wants to have his contract renegotiated but the UFC is apparently unwilling to budge.

Earlier today, an even crazier rumor was leaked, one that would involve Bellator champion Eddie Alvarez. According to multiple media reports, Eddie Alvarez may be on the brink of working out his issues with Bellator and finally making his move to the UFC. Alvarez is still under contract with Bellator as of this point, though the UFC is apparently currently in negotiations to bring him over to their promotion.

If that does happen, the UFC is apparently looking at booking a fight between Donald "The Cowboy" Cerrone and Alvarez for the co-main event of UFC 178. That would obviously be a tremendous fight, as Cerrone and Alvarez are two of the lightweight divisions most exciting fighters.

Will this fight come to fruition? Let's hope so. If it does, I think it would be safe to say that UFC 178 would end up being the promotion's most stacked card ever (even more stacked than UFC 100, which featured both Brock Lesnar and Georges St. Pierre).
