Dong Hyun Kim Continues To Move Up The Welterweight Ladder

Then - Dong Hyun Kim is a good fighter, but he's boring and fans don't really like him.

Now - Dong Hyun Kim is a beast and the sky is the limit for the South Korean fighter.

Dong Hyun Kim has built up an extremely impressive record since entering the UFC. Kim has only dropped two fights since first stepping into the Octagon, and those losses came against Demian Maia (which was a freak loss that came as a result of a muscle spasm for Kim) and Carlos Condit. Kim has notched victories over the likes of Erick Silva, Nate Diaz and TJ Grant.

The knock on Kim, however, was that he was a boring fighter who was more concerned with controlling his opponents than finishing them off.

Kim listened to the criticism and made an established effort to significantly focus on his striking. My opponents won't be able to take me down, Kim reasoned, so let me make my striking as sharp as possible.

Kim's efforts have certainly paid off, as he has now won his last two fights with spectacular knockouts (Erick Silva, John Hathaway). Both knockouts were so good, in fact, that Kim managed to win bonuses for each knockout.

With Kim's impressive victory over John Hathaway, he has now elevated himself into the upper echelons of the UFC's Welterweight division. It's still unclear as to who Kim's next opponent will be, but it will almost certainly be a bigger name along the likes of Jake Ellenberger. Kim has changed his game and has earned his increased status in the UFC.

Kim, despite having 23 professional fights under his belt, is still only 32 years old. Kim still has time to make a run at the Welterweight title, and now is as good of a time as any thanks to the departure of Georges St. Pierre from the division.
