Alvarez vs Cerrone To Serve as Card's Co-Main Event

Earlier this week, Eddie Alvarez was released by Bellator following years of unrest and litigation between the two sides. The UFC, which had tried to sign Alvarez in 2012, quickly stepped in and snapped up the former Bellator Lightweight champion.

No time was wasted in giving Alvarez a fight, as the UFC announced yesterday that Alvarez will be taking on Donald Cerrone in the co-main event of UFC 178.

Here is how the main card for UFC 178 looks as of this moment:

Demetrious Johnson vs Chris Cariaso
Donald Cerrone vs Eddie Alvarez
Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier
Tim Kennedy vs Yoel Romero
Cat Zingano vs Amanda Nunes

Jon Jones vs Daniel Cormier was originally set to headline this card, but Jones was forced to pull out due to an injury.

According to Alvarez, the former Bellator Lightweight champion is looking to fight for the UFC's Lightweight title within a year.

Standing in his way will be Donald Cerrone, the man who collects bonuses like they are going out of style. Both Cerrone and Alvarez are known for their predilection for extreme violence, which should make this fight an unbelievable tilt.

My only complaint? That Alvarez vs Cerrone won't be a five round tilt. This would seem to be a perfect fight to have on a UFC on Fox card, but I won't complain about it being the co-main event of UFC 178.
