Fabricio Werdum Will Battle Hunt For Interim Heavyweight Title at UFC 180

The main event of UFC 180 in Mexico suffered a tremendous blow earlier this week when it was revealed that Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was forced to pull out of the fight due to an injury. Velasquez was originally supposed to defend his title against Fabricio Werdum in the UFC's first ever trip to Mexico.

Velasquez, who has not fought since October of 2013, suffered a knee injury while training for the fight.

The UFC quickly found a willing participant in Mark Hunt, who is coming off of an impressive knockout victory over Roy Nelson earlier in the year. Hunt has said that he is ready for the fight, though he will have to reportedly lose close to 50 pounds to make weight.

The fight will be for the interim Heavyweight title.

It will be interesting to see if Werdum tries to take Hunt to the ground or if the fight will be a stand-up battle. Mark Hunt has iron fists and a legendary chin and is one of the top strikers in the promotion, while Werdum has greatly improved his stand-up over the past couple of years and is one of the division's best grapplers. It will be interesting to see if Werdum engages in any stand-up with Hunt or if he will look to take the fight to the ground right away.

Fabricio Werdum has opened as a moderate favourite - here are the current odds:

Fabrico Werdum, -260
Mark Hunt, +200

So, a successful $260 bet on Werdum would yield a total profit of $100, while a successful $100 bet on Hunt would return a total profit of $200.
