Frankie Edgar Opens as -400 Favorite Over Faber

A Featherweight tilt between Frankie "The Answer" Edgar and Urijah "The California Kid" Faber will headline the UFC's first trip to Manila on May 16th, 2015.

Edgar vs Faber was a fight that was put together because neither man really had any other good options in their respective divisions. With TJ Dillashaw fighting Renan Barao at UFC 186, Urijah Faber really doesn't have any decent fights in the Bantamweight division. Frankie Edgar, on the other hand, would have likely gotten the next shot at Jose Aldo if not for a person named Conor McGregor.

As a result, Urijah Faber will be moving up to 145 to take on Frankie Edgar at the Mall of Asia Arena on May 16th. For Faber, this fight is really a win/win - if he loses, he gets to move back down to 135 and his standing in the division will really not be impacted. If he manages to win, he'll have a very good argument for the next title shot at 135 pounds.

Frankie Edgar stands to lose quite a bit in this match if things don't go well for him. It makes sense that Edgar will be getting the winner of McGregor/Aldo IF he manages to beat Faber. If Edgar loses to Urijah Faber, the UFC almost certainly wouldn't give him the next shot at the title.

Frankie Edgar has opened as a big favorite to win on May 16th - here are the current betting odds:

Frankie Edgar, -400
Urijah Faber, +300

According to these odds, Edgar has a 80% chance of winning on May 16th while Faber has a 25% shot of coming out on top.

While Faber is a ball of energy every time that he steps into the Octagon, he is likely running up against a guy who has an even bigger gas tank. Frankie Edgar never seems to tire and his wrestling and crisp boxing may be the difference in this fight.
