UFC Looking For New Opponent For Nurmagomedov

A rumoured Lightweight battle between Gilbert Melendez and Khabib Nurmagomedov will not be happening according to UFC President Dana White.

The Melendez/Nurmagomedov tilt was rumored to take place on the UFC 170 card (Rousey vs McMann in the main event). In fact, there were people who thought that the fight was a done deal until White threw water on that possibility. It's unsure exactly what happened, as apparently both Melendez and Nurmagomedov wanted the fight.

Anyways, the UFC has stated that they are going to try to fight another opponent for Nurmagomedov. Whether or not he will be fighting at UFC 170 is another question altogether.

There is some thought that the UFC will try to put together a Nate Diaz/Khabib Nurmagomedov fight, as Nurmagomedov specifically requested to fight Diaz. Nurmagomedov is not exactly an appealing stylistic match-up for Diaz, so it will be interesting to see if Nate would be interested in the fight.

UFC 170's main card includes the following fights as of this moment:

Ronda Rousey vs Sara McMann
Daniel Cormier vs Rashad Evans
Rafael dos Anjos vs Rustam Khabilov
Rory MacDonald vs Demian Maia

The UFC is likely looking for a fight to put in before the Cormier/Evans co-main event.
