Glover Teixeira Could Be Next For Jones/Gustafsson Winner

Shortly after he beat Rashad Evans at UFC 145, people were wondering who Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones would be fighting next. After all, he had run through the best fighters that the division had to offer - Machida, Evans, "Rampage" and "Shogun" all fell victim to "Bones", and there didn't appear to be any legitimate challengers left for the champion.

It's funny what a difference 18 months can make, as there is now a long line of challengers vying for a shot at Jones.

Alexander Gustafsson is next up for the champion, as the two are set to square off in the main event of UFC 165 in Toronto.

According to the UFC, Glover Teixeira can guarantee himself a shot at the winner of Jones/Gustafsson with an "impressive" victory over Ryan Bader. The two are set to square off on September 4th, 2013.

Teixeira has won all four of his fights so far, and three of them have been via stoppage. The fight against Fabio Maldonado was particularly brutal, as Maldonado was unable to continue after the second round.

Jon "Bones" Jones has often spoke of his desire to take on new names, which is why he wasn't too excited about the prospects of having a rematch against Lyoto Machida. That situation took care of itself, however, after Machida dropped a decision to Phil Davis at UFC 163.

Now, suddenly, there is a wealth of potential contenders at 205. Of course, you have Alexander Gustafsson, who is set to face the champ next month. After that, there is a possibility of Teixeira getting a shot at the title. After that, future potential contenders include Daniel Cormier and Phil Davis.

For Glover Teixeira, his upcoming fight against Ryan Bader takes on even more importance in terms of his career. Will he be able to rise to the occasion and defeat Ryan Bader to earn a shot at the title, much like Jon "Bones" Jones did before he got his shot?
