Dana White: Fight Date Should Be Finalized This Week

Published on April 8th, 2017 3:35 pm EST

In an interview with TSN on Friday afternoon, UFC President Dana White discussed a number of topics, including the upcoming Middleweight title fight between champion Michael Bisping and challenger Georges St. Pierre.

According to White, the promotion is hoping to finalize the date for the fight by next week. Once the date is finalized, an announcement should follow shortly after.

White has stated his preference for having the fight headline UFC 213, which is set to take place on July 8th. This date makes perfect sense, as UFC 213 takes place during International Fight Week. What better main event to headline UFC 213 than a title fight between Britain's own Michael Bisping and Georges St. Pierre?

The MMA King is in the middle of a report featuring Michael Bisping and Georges St. Pierre.

According to Bisping, St. Pierre has been waffling on the date that he wants to fight. Bisping has stated that St. Pierre might want to fight later in the year.

St. Pierre has been out of action since 2013 after narrowly defending his Welterweight title against Johny Hendricks. St. Pierre is a notorious perfectionist and won't be rushed into the Octagon before he is ready.

Bisping, on the other hand, has said that he will be ready to fight on July 8th. In terms of the money involved, UFC 213 stands to make both Bisping and St. Pierre a pile of money, as the UFC always stacks their early July PPV card and this year will be no different. This is the reason why Bisping has been agitating to get included on this card.

Bisping has promised that he will fight Yoel Romero "shortly" after he defeats St. Pierre. Romero, who is seen as the legitimate contender at 185, has said that he will only fight in the meanwhile if it is for an interim title.

Bisping, on the other hand, has stated that he wants to collect one really big paycheque before he takes on Romero.

Georges St. Pierre vs Michael Bisping is likely the biggest fight that the UFC can put on right now that doesn't involve Conor McGregor, so you can understand why they would want to have this fight headline UFC 213 in July.
