Shields Injured, Match With Fitch Scrapped

Jake Shields was forced to put his World Series of Fighting debut on hold earlier this week when he had to pull out of his planned match with Jon Fitch due to an injury.

Shields vs Fitch was scheduled to be the co-main event of WSOF's July 5th card, but the match has now been entirely scrapped while Shields recovers from his undisclosed injury. Shields vs Fitch was set to feature two Welterweight fighters who have both previously fought former UFC Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre for the title (both lost). Many MMA fans were curious as to how a Fitch vs Shields fight would go, as both fighters are not exactly known for their scintillating fighting styles. These fans will now have to wait until Shields recovers from his injury.

The July 5th World Series of Fighting card (which is, for some strange reason, taking place on the same night as the stacked UFC 175 card) will now move ahead with Justin Gaethje vs Nick Newell in the main event. In addition, another former UFC fighter, Melvin Guillard, will be making his WSOF debut against Gesias Cavalcante.

It's not known at that time as to whether or not the WSOF will find another fight for Jon Fitch or simply wait until Shields heals up and try to make that fight again.
