Jon Jones Reveals His Planned Return Date

The UFC recently revealed that they plan on holding an event at Madison Square Garden on April 23rd, 2016.

Jon Jones, the former Light Heavyweight title holder who was stripped of his title following a hit-and-run accident, was recently reinstated by the UFC.

Many people figured that Jones would be included on the UFC 200 card in July of 2016, but the former champion has a different date in mind - April 23rd, 2016.

You really can not find a more perfect return date for Jones than UFC 198 in April, as he is from the area and Cormier/Jones II would be the type of high profile fight that would be fitting for the UFC's first ever event at Madison Square Garden. There is absolutely no chance that the UFC will put Jones in a "warm-up" fight - instead, he will get the title shot straight away.

The timing works out as well, as Daniel Cormier recently said that he will be taking time off to celebrate the holidays with his family. Assuming that Cormier gets going again at the start of the new year, this would give the champion roughly 3 1/2 months to get ready for the rematch.

Jon Jones' return to the UFC is a big deal for the promotion, as their biggest star, "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey, recently suffered a devastating loss. The promotion needs as much star power as it can get right now, and Jones' return to the fold is something that they will surely welcome.

The odds for the Jones/Cormier rematch haven't been released as of yet, though Jones will surely be the favorite.
