Jones Successfully Defends His Title Via Unanimous Decision

The hate was real.

After successfully defending his Light Heavyweight title against Daniel Cormier earlier this evening, Jon Jones continued his tirade against the challenger, claiming that Cormier was probably in the back "crying" and that he "doesn't like the guy".

In this day and age, many fans rightly wonder if all of the "beef" is manufactured. In many instances, fighters will admit after their fights that they really didn't have any problem with their opponents and that all of the back-and-forth was done entirely to generate PPV sales.

Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier were different, however, as Jones refused to let up after the fight, while Cormier was reportedly reduced to tears in the back.

In the end, Jones used his dynamic striking attack to defeat his opponent. Surprisingly enough, Cormier was unable to land any takedowns on Jones. In fact, it was Jones who managed to take Cormier down a number of times, especially in the fourth round of the fight. This fact was not lost on Jones, who mocked Cormier about his takedowns in his postfight interview.

In short, Jones' performance over Cormier solidified his standing in the eyes of many as the greatest mixed martial arts fight to have ever lived. Jones has run through an impressive list of opponents during his current run as champion and there is no sign that his reign will be ending anytime soon.

Next up for Jones? The winner of Gustafsson/Johnson, which will be taking place later in the month. You can safely assume that Jones will next be stepping into the Octagon this summer, perhaps at the promotion's July 4th card in Las Vegas.

All in all, another superlative performance from the Light Heavyweight champion.
