Jon Jones vs Glover Teixeira To Take Place Later In the Year

It seemed to make perfect sense - Jon Jones, arguably the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world, making his next title defense in New Jersey on Super Bowl weekend.

The UFC even went so far as to confirm the fight on their web site, but it seems as though things have now changed. You would have to think that some sort of injury, likely to Jon Jones, is delaying the fight.

According to UFC President Dana White, the Jon Jones vs Glover Teixeira fight is now being targeted for March.

This leads people to wonder - what will be the main event of the Super Bowl weekend card? After all, this is one of the biggest cards of the year for the UFC, and they will surely want to have a marquee fight headlining the card.

The UFC's biggest names, including Georges St. Pierre and Anderson Silva, are fighting at the end of 2013, and likely wouldn't be ready to fight in early February.

In my opinion, the likeliest scenario would be a Heavyweight title fight, assuming that the winner of Junior dos Santos vs Cain Velasquez thing emerges from their upcoming title fight relatively unscathed. This would give the winner time to have a full training camp, and a Heavyweight title fight would provide the UFC with the type of high profile fight that they need to headline their annual Super Bowl weekend card.

So, in short - don't expect Jon "Bones" Jones to be defending his Light Heavyweight title again until March, at the earliest.
