Junior dos Santos Not Interested in Overeem Fight

Former UFC Heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos came out earlier this week with some interesting comments regarding the current state at the top of the Heavyweight division.

There have been many people clamoring for a Junior dos Santos vs Alistair Overeem fight - a fight that the UFC has tried to put together twice before. One of those fights was derailed after Overeem tested positive for highly elevated levels of testosterone in his system, while the other was scrapped following an Overeem injury.

In recent weeks, Overeem, who is set to fight Ben Rothwell on September 5th, has said that he is interested in the dos Santos fight once he "takes care of" Rothwell.

Dos Santos, for his part, is not interested. According to dos Santos, Overeem is only interested in promoting himself and is not really interested in fighting the former Heavyweight champion. So, at least in the eyes of dos Santos, you can scratch dos Santos vs Overeem off the list, at least for now.

Dos Santos is also not interested in fighting Josh Barnett, which is another name that has been mentioned as a possible opponent.

Who does Dos Santos really want?

That would be Stipe Miocic, as the two were originally supposed to square off earlier in the year until dos Santos had to pull out due to a hand injury. Fabio Maldonado stepped in to replace dos Santos in the fight, with Miocic needing only 35 seconds to score the victory.

Dos Santos has stated that he wants another shot at Cain Velasquez, and it looks likely that the path to the title shot will go through Miocic, at least if dos Santos has his way.
