Dos Santos Targeting May or June Return Date

Former UFC Heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos is apparently targeting a May or June return to the Octagon, according to members of his camp.

The last time that we saw Dos Santos, he was bruised, battered and beaten following his UFC 166 tilt against Cain Velasquez. The fight was the "rubber match" in their trilogy of fights, and Velasquez won decisively. So decisively, in fact, that it has forced Dos Santos and his camp to look for new places to train.

Dos Santos, who is one of the most likeable fighters in the UFC, has lost two of his last three fights in a row and is looking to get back onto the winning track.

Dos Santos and his team would prefer to fight Alistair Overeem, as there is some definite heat between the two fighters. If you'll remember, Dos Santos and Overeem were scheduled to fight each other at UFC 146, but Overeem was unable to fight after testing positive for extremely elevated levels of testosterone. Dos Santos fought Frank Mir instead and was able to successfully defend his title.

Overeem and Dos Santos engaged in a heated war of words, and Dos Santos has always wanted to fight Overeem. The problem, though, is that Overeem is fighting Frank Mir in February, and an Overeem loss would almost certainly send him out of the UFC. Overeem has lost two fights in a row and it would be hard to imagine the UFC keeping him around if he lost to Frank Mir.

Junior dos Santos is still extremely popular in Brazil, and the UFC will be happy to get him back. It may be a while before Dos Santos fights for the title again, but the UFC should be able to book him into some entertaining bouts.
