Kowalkiewicz Very Likely Earned Shot at Title With Win on Saturday

According to UFC President Dana White, Karolina Kowalkiewicz will very likely be squaring off against Joanna Jedrzejczyk in her next fight. Jedrzejczyk, who is the reigning Strawweight champion, is coming off of a successful title defense against Claudia Gadelha in July, while Kowalkiewicz defeated Rose Namajunas this past Saturday night.

With the UFC looking to continue to break into new European markets, the prospect of a Poland vs Poland title match is obviously very enticing for the promotion. There is a chance that Jedrzejczyk vs Kowalkiewicz will be the main event on a card such as UFC 205 (in New York City), though it makes just too much sense not to hold the title fight in Poland. For a country that already loves fighting, the prospect of a title fight involving two of their own would likely send Poland into a frenzy.

In addition, a Jedrzejczyk vs Kowalkiewicz fight would provide plenty of entertainment in the form of trash talking. Both women are extremely proficient in getting under the skin of their opponents, and there is no doubt that Jedrzejczyk and Kowalkiewicz would flood each other with a tremendous amount of vitriol.

On top of all of that, both women utilize a Muay Thai heavy style that is fan-friendly. A fight between the two men would almost certainly be entirely contested on the feet - both women have very deep gas tanks, so fans would likely get treated to a five round bloodfest with plenty of striking.

With Jedrzejczyk having already defeated both Claudia Gadelha (twice actually) and Carla Esparza, setting up a fight between the champion and Karolina Kowalkiewicz makes a great deal of sense.

The champion is a perfect 12-0-0, though she came very close to losing to Claudia Gadelha before turning up the heat in the last three rounds of the fight.

Karolina Kowalkiewicz is 10-0-0 over the course of her professional career, with her biggest ever win coming this past Saturday night against Rose Namajunas. Namajunas came into the fight as the favourite, though Kowalkiewicz used her superior striking and cardio to edge out a split decision victory.

With that win, Kowalkiewicz has likely earned herself a title shot and the biggest fight of her life.
