Machida vs Kennedy Scheduled for November

UFC President Dana White promised a surprise for fans during his appearance on Fox Sports 1 last night.

White revealed that former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida will be officially dropping down to 185 pounds, and that his first opponent will be Tim Kennedy. The two are scheduled to square off at UFC Fight for the Troops 3, which is set to take place on November 6th in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

The fight will likely serve as the main event of the card, but nothing has been officially confirmed as of yet.

Lyoto Machida has been rumoured to drop to 185 pounds for a while now. Given Machida's recent loss to Phil Davis, the "Dragon" is far from a shot at Jon Jones and the Light Heavyweight title. With a drop to 185 pounds, Machida will be fighting in his natural weight class and will be able to make another run at a title.

There was some talk that Machida might square off against Nick Diaz at 185 pounds, but Dana White ultimately dismissed the potential match as a "mistake".

Tim Kennedy won his first UFC fight in July, defeating Roger Gracie by decision at UFC 162.

Lyoto Machida will be a much tougher test for Kennedy, and a win over the "Dragon" would vault Kennedy up the Middleweight ladder.
