For hardcore MMA fans, this is a dream come true - Lyoto Machida will be squaring off against Gegard Mousasi in the main event of an upcoming UFC Fight Night card. The event, which is scheduled for February 8th, 2014, will be held in Jaragua do Sul in Brazil.

In the hours following Lyoto Machida's easy victory over Mark Munoz in October, Gegard Mousasi took to his Twitter account to call Machida out. There was some question as to who Machida would be fighting next following his impressive Middleweight debut - Vitor Belfort? Michael "The Count" Bisping? The winner of Weidman/Silva 2?

Instead, the UFC decided to go with the intriguing Machida/Mousasi match. Mousasi is a former Strikeforce and DREAM light heavyweight champion, while Machida is a former UFC Light Heavyweight champion. Mousasi has fought the likes of Mark Hunt and Ronaldo Souza over the course of his career, and has built up an impressive following amongst hardcore MMA fans.

Mousasi won his UFC debut in April of 2013, easily beating Ilir Latifi in the main event of UFC on Fuel TV: Mousasi vs Latifi. It's safe to say that Lyoto Machida represents a significant step up in competition for the former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight champion.

It's safe to say that the winner of this fight will be, as Dana White often says, right "in the mix" in the Middleweight title picture. As a matter of fact, it wouldn't surprise me at all if the winner of this fight got the next shot at the Middleweight title.
