Rousey NOT Fighting Gina Carano at UFC 175

An April Fool's joke fooled many fight fans yesterday after it was circulated that Ronda Rousey would be making her next title defense against Gina Carano at UFC 175.

The prank was enhanced by the likes of former UFC Welterweight Dan Hardy, who took to his Twitter account to announce that he was excited for the fight.

The origins of the fake story are not known, but it was certainly circulated quickly throughout the Twitterverse.

The prank was heightened by the fact that a Rousey vs Carano fight HAD been rumoured. Dana White had said in recent months that Carano was still under contract to Zuffa and that he would love to see her back in the UFC, and Carano herself had not ruled out a return to the Octagon. In addition, UFC color man Joe Rogan said a few weeks ago that there was a "big" announcement coming in Women's MMA - what bigger announcement than a mega-fight between Ronda Rousey and Gino Carano? After all, Carano was THE biggest name in Women's MMA before she left Strikeforce to pursue a career as a movie star, and a fight between Rousey and Carano would be off the charts in terms of media coverage.

The rumor was that Carano would be coming out of her hiatus to take on Ronda Rousey in the co-main event of UFC 175.

The only problem with that theory? Carano last fought in August of 2009 and it's very hard to imagine that she would be ready for such a big fight in just three months.

In addition, you would think that the UFC would want to give her at least ONE tune-up fight before throwing her to the champion.

In the end, the Rousey vs Carano rumor turned out to be false. Rousey vs Cyborg, however? That fight may still happen.
