Mark Hunt Agrees To Fight Against Alistair Overeem at UFC 209

PRIDE fans were overjoyed earlier this week after Mark Hunt revealed that he had agreed to fight Alistair Overeem at UFC 209.

There were doubts that this fight would ever get made due to Hunt's insistence that he receive some sort of compensation if his opponent tested positive for steroids. Hunt has fought against three men - Antonio Silva, Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar - who have tested positive for some sort of banned substance. Following Brock Lesnar's positive test after UFC 200, Hunt was enraged and wanted a significant portion of Lesnar's UFC 200 purse as compensation.

When rumors of an Overeem/Hunt fight started to surface, Hunt said that he had not yet agreed to the fight. Hunt revealed that he was insisting on receiving Overeem's purse if Alistair tested positive for a banned substance. Hunt said that he tried to get the UFC to include this in the contract, but that it was a no-go from the promotion's side.

Hunt then tried to convince Overeem to agree to some sort of a deal between just the two of them, though he said that he never heard back from the former Strikeforce Heavyweight champion.

The MMA King is explaining the Mark Hunt situation heading into the fight with Alistair Overeem at UFC 209.

Hunt, rather reluctantly, agreed to fight Alistair Overeem earlier this week after saying that he needed the money to feed his family.

According to Hunt, there will be no special stipulation in the fight contract, as both the UFC and Overeem were either unwilling to include it or unresponsive to the request.

If Alistair Overeem does test positive for something, Hunt warned, he could find himself on the wrong end of a lawsuit, delivered by Hunt and his legal team.

Following the Lesnar positive test, Mark Hunt sounded as though he was through with fighting.

I have no doubt that if the Lesnar fight had been the last on his deal, Hunt would be fighting for RIZIN in Japan right now.

Hunt is clearly in a point in his life where he won't kowtow to the UFC, which should make the press conferences for UFC 209 extremely interesting.
