Matt Brown moved closer to a Welterweight title shot and earned himself $100,000 in bonuses in the process with a savage third round KO victory over Erick Silva last night in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Brown vs Silva.

The fight was billed as a battle between two fighters who have no "off" switch - in the end, things progressed pretty much as expected, with each fighter throwing absolutely everything they had at the other. In the end, hometown Matt Brown ended up finishing Silva off in the third round, much to the delight of the fans.

Silva very nearly finished Brown off in the first round after catching "The Immortal" with an expert shot to the body. Brown crumpled to the canvas and Silva locked in a body lock and attempted to finish Brown with a rear naked choke and armbar. In the end, Brown was able to escape after a couple of furious minutes of ground action. By the end of the first round, Brown had the momentum back on his side after launching a furious volley of offensive strikes.

Round 2 also belonged to Brown, though Silva was able to hit a couple of kicks to the body which made Brown wilt. Brown pressed on through the pain and was able to inflict some very heavy damage on his Brazilian opponent. Brown seemed to be getting stronger as the fight went on, while Silva was quickly running out of gas.

The third round saw Brown take Silva to the ground multiple times before finally landing the decisive blow - an elbow to the head. Silva turtled and referee Herb Dean called the fight a few seconds later.

Matt Brown was talking title shot after the fight, but Dana White said that Brown will have to win a "marquee match-up" before he gets a shot at the title.

The original plans were for a Matt Brown vs Carlos Condit fight, but Condit is likely out for a while longer due to his knee injury. It will be interesting to see who the UFC decides to match Matt Brown up with next, but one thing is for sure - the fight won't be boring.
