McGregor Set To Take Time Off From UFC

Featherweight and Lightweight champion Conor McGregor emerged from his fight last weekend against Eddie Alvarez without a single scratch on his face.

Despite being the picture of health, McGregor revealed after UFC 205 that he would be taking some time off in advance of the birth of his first child. According to UFC President Dana White, Conor McGregor's girlfriend, Dee Devlin, gets extremely nervous prior to Conor's fight, and McGregor doesn't want anything to endanger the birth of his first child. For that reason, McGregor is set to remain away from the UFC until his child is welcomed to the world.

The King is in his studio talking to the audience. There is a mic in front of him and a UFC logo on the tv right behind him. The topic is Conor McGregor - the sports biggest star.

McGregor is stepping away right at the moment when his star power is burning the brightest. This might actually be a great thing for both McGregor and the UFC, however, as it will build anticipation for his return fight.

Dana White revealed that fans shouldn't expect to see Conor back in the Octagon until June of 2017 at the earliest, as Dee is expecting in May of 2017. Given the timelines involved, you can safely assume that McGregor will be appearing on one of the UFC's big summer cards. With the UFC currently planning to return to Madison Square Garden in November of 2017, you can also assume that McGregor will be on that card as well.

In the meantime, the Featherweight and Lightweight divisions will get to play themselves out a bit.

There is a very good chance that Jose Aldo and Max Holloway end up fighting for the interim Featherweight title, while Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson may square off for the #1 contender spot in the Lightweight division. One complicating factor there, however, is the fact that Khabib has vowed not to fight until it is for the Lightweight title.

With McGregor moving to the sidelines for the interim, the PPV business of the UFC will be tested. Thankfully for the promotion, Ronda Rousey is set to make her return in late December against Amanda Nunes.
