Miesha Tate Wins Via Unanimous Decision

Earlier today, Miesha Tate defeated Jessica Eye in the co-main event of UFC on Fox 16: Dillashaw vs Barao to likely earn the next shot at the Women's Bantamweight title.

The fight between Tate and Eye was billed as a #1 contender eliminator fight, which means that Tate will almost certainly be fighting the winner of Ronda Rousey vs Bethe Correia, which is set to take place next weekend in Brazil.

Assuming that Rousey wins (she is the overwhelming favourite to do so), the UFC will likely put on Tate vs Rousey 3 later in the year. This is, of course, unless Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino decides to finally make the drop to 135 pounds to take on Rousey. In that case, "Cyborg" would likely get the next title shot instead, as that is the "big money" fight in the Women's Bantamweight division.

Ronda Rousey has already beaten Tate twice in her career, so a third battle doesn't do much to command the interest of fans.

There are, however, a few ways that the UFC will likely market this fight:

1) It's Ronda Rousey

2) Miesha Tate took Ronda Rousey to the third round in their second fight, which no other fighter has been able to do

3) Miesha Tate and Ronda Rousey legitimately despise each other

The simple fact of the matter is that there are no other compelling match-ups for Rousey, barring a fight against "Cyborg".

The top of the Women's Bantamweight division looks like this:

C - Ronda Rousey

#1 - Cat Zingano
#2 - Miesha Tate
#3 - Alexis Davis
#4 - Sara McMann
#5 - Jessica Eye

Ronda Rousey recently beat both Cat Zingano and Alexis Davis in a combined 30 seconds, so they are obviously out.

At UFC 170, Rousey beat Sara McMann in 1 minute and 6 seconds, so she is obviously out.

Jessica Eye, the #5 ranked fighter in the division, just lost to Miesha Tate, so she is also out.

After looking at the top of the Women's Bantamweight rankings, it becomes increasingly apparent that Rousey/Tate III is the ONLY fight that the UFC can legitimately put on right now if "Cyborg" can't make 135 pounds.

In the end, a third fight between Tate/Rousey will likely do very well, even though the outcome is really not in doubt.
