Phil Brooks To Make His Octagon Debut in 2015

The UFC made waves earlier tonight when they announced the signing of former WWE superstar, "CM Punk", to a contract.

Phil Brooks, aka "CM Punk", was recently in the news after revealing details of his acrimonious departure from WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) earlier in the year. "CM Punk" was one of the biggest names in the WWE and he will surely bring plenty of fans with him to the UFC.

This is an interesting move for the UFC that may scream of desperation. It is no surprise that the UFC is dealing with a decline of their business right now, especially on the PPV side of things. With stars such as Brock Lesnar and Georges St. Pierre leaving the promotion, the UFC has had to deal with a significant decline in star power. "CM Punk" is certainly a person who can "move the needle" for the UFC but they run the risk of tainting their promotion with the signing of Brooks.

After all, Brooks has no professional fights under his belt and has, by his own admission, been training BJJ on a part-time basis over the past number of years. Brock Lesnar had one professional fight under his belt when he made his first appearance in the Octagon - "CM Punk", on the other hand, will be making his first professional appearance in the UFC.

A big asset that "CM Punk" brings with him to the UFC is his ability to talk. As we've seen from Conor McGregor and Chael Sonnen, those fighters who can talk are handsomely rewarded. "CM Punk" has been cutting promos for the WWE for many years and will be second to none when he gets on a UFC microphone.

This move could backfire badly for the UFC if Brooks is uncompetitive when he makes his UFC debut. On the other hand, there is no question that his first fight will draw a massive amount of fanfare and result in many PPV buys. Other fighters have already picked up on this as the call-outs of "CM Punk" have already begun.

Is this a good move for the UFC or not?
