As part of their blowout celebration in July, the UFC announced earlier this week that Rafael dos Anjos will be attempting to make his second successful defense of the Lightweight title when he takes on Eddie Alvarez. The card, which is scheduled for July 7th, will be broadcast exclusively on UFC Fight Pass.

The Dos Anjos vs Alvarez fight will mark the second time that the UFC has broadcast one of their title fights on UFC Fight Pass. The other, Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs Jessica Penne, took place in June of 2015.

Rafael dos Anjos was originally slated to fight Conor McGregor at UFC 196, though the fight was eventually called off after dos Anjos suffered an injury in the weeks leading up to the fight. Nate Diaz took dos Anjos' place in the fight and defeated McGregor via second round submission.

Dos Anjos had been petitioning to get included on the UFC 200 card though was ultimately denied. In addition to wanting to fight Conor McGregor, dos Anjos also said that he was interested in a fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov. In the end, however, neither of these fights ended up coming together.

Eddie Alvarez earned his shot at the title after posting back-to-back victories against Anthony "Showtime" Pettis and Gilbert Melendez. Some feel that there were better choices for the title shot, as Alvarez has somewhat underwhelmed since joining the UFC a few years ago. In the end, however, Alvarez vs dos Anjos should be a very entertaining fight, as dos Anjos has a full array of different weapons at his disposal and Alvarez is one of the toughest fighters in the UFC.

In addition, the other top fighters in the Lightweight division are either already committed to fights (Anthony Pettis, Khabib Nurmagomedov) or have already lost to dos Anjos.

Regardless of whether or not you think that Alvarez deserves the title shot, the fight for the Lightweight title, which is set for July 7th in Las Vegas, should be a tremendous fight for the fans.
