Evans vs Sonnen To Serve as Co-Main Event

The UFC announced earlier today that former Light Heavyweight champion Rashad Evans will be squaring off against Chael Sonnen in the co-main event of UFC 167: Hendricks vs St. Pierre.

Chael Sonnen had been angling for a fight on the upcoming UFC 167 card, which will serve as the promotion's 20th anniversary event. Sonnen had originally wanted to fight Wanderlei Silva on the card, but Silva was apparently unavailable due to an injury.

There was some talk of Sonnen fighting Phil Davis, but the promotion eventually decided that Evans vs Sonnen was the better fight. Both Evans and Sonnen have great personalities, and both fighters are two of the promotion's biggest draws. This should be a great co-main event.

Evans and Sonnen are friends and have done analyst work together on Fox. However, the two men will be putting their friendship aside when they step into the Octagon at UFC 167.

Chael Sonnen is coming off of an impressive victory over Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in August, while Evans managed to squeak by Dan Henderson in a recent tilt.

An impressive victory for Sonnen or Evans would move them up the Light Heavyweight title ladder.

UFC 167 is going to be a blockbuster of a card - here is the line-up so far:

Georges St. Pierre vs Johny Hendricks
Rashad Evans vs Chael Sonnen
Rory MacDonald vs Robbie Lawler
Josh Koscheck vs Tyron Woodley
