According to multiple media reports, former UFC Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre is poised to return to the promotion, roughly 2 1/2 years after a controversial split decision victory over Johny Hendricks.

St. Pierre, who is undoubtedly still one of the UFC's biggest stars, has been training with an eye towards returning to the promotion. According to GSP himself, the two sides have been discussing St. Pierre's return to the UFC.

According to St. Pierre, there are several issues that are delaying a return to the UFC for "Rush". One of those issues is sponsorship, as the UFC signed a uniform deal with Reebook while St. Pierre was on the sidelines. According to St. Pierre, his contract has several stipulations regarding his sponsorship deals that must be addressed before he returns to the Octagon. St. Pierre went on to say that his contract may have to be reworked to deal with the issue of sponsorship deals.

The UFC, on the other hand, has been tight-lipped about the negotiations. UFC President Dana White has said multiple times that he believes that St. Pierre will stay retired, though it looks as though he will prove to be wrong, provided that the two sides can work out the contract issues.

With St. Pierre reportedly interested in returning to the UFC, talk has turned to potential opponents for the former champion.

Some believe that St. Pierre should get an immediate title shot against Robbie Lawler, while others believe that high profile fights, against the likes of Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva or Nick Diaz, should be given to St. Pierre.
