Rousey vs McMann for Women's Bantamweight Title

Published on December 31st, 2013 4:04 pm EST

Ronda Rousey, fresh off of an emphatic victory against arch-rival Miesha Tate, will next be defending her Women's Bantamweight title against Sara McMann in the main event of UFC 170 on February 22nd, 2014. This card will take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ronda Rousey received relatively little damage in her fight against Miesha Tate, which is why she is able to turn things around so fast to face Sara McMann on the 22nd of February. The UFC reportedly approached Rousey with the idea of doing the fight BEFORE Rousey took on Miesha Tate at UFC 168, which just goes to show how confident UFC management was in Rousey winning that fight. Rousey's desire for a fast turnaround is understandable as well, as she just spent a number of months filming The Ultimate Fighter.

UFC 170 needed a main event, and Rousey vs McMann will certainly fit that bill. The co-main event is compelling as well, as Daniel Cormier will be dropping down to Light Heavyweight to do battle with former Light Heavyweight champion Rashad Evans. This fight has definite title implications, as both fighters would make a case for the #1 contender spot with an emphatic win.

The rest of the UFC 170 main card looks like this as of this moment:

Rory MacDonald vs Demian Maia
Rafael dos Anjos vs Rustam Khabilov

In addition, Gilbert Melendez vs Khabib Nurmagomedov has also been rumored for this card, but nothing has been signed as of yet.

Sara McMann is a former Olympic wrestler, which should pose an interesting stylistic match-up for Ronda Rousey. Rousey is used to being able to throw her opponents around using her incredible judo, but McMann will be much harder to move.

McMann has a perfect 7-0 record as a mixed martial artist, while Rousey is 8-0.
