MacDonald Wants Winner of Lawler/Hendricks

Rory MacDonald scored a come-from-behind victory over Demian Maia at UFC 170 to launch himself back into the Welterweight title picture. With friend and training partner Georges St. Pierre now on an extended hiatus, MacDonald is free to challenge for the title.

UFC President Dana White heaped praise on MacDonald’s performance at UFC 170, and MacDonald has now clearly been emboldened enough to ask his boss for a shot at the title.

Earlier today, MacDonald took to his Twitter account to ask for the winner of Hendricks/Lawler, who will be squaring off for the vacant Welterweight title at UFC 171.

Unfortunately for Rory, Condit/Woodley will also be taking place at UFC 171. If Condit is able to secure a victory, he will likely be ahead of MacDonald in the Welterweight title picture.

In reality, the fight that would make the most sense would be Condit/MacDonald if Condit is able to get past Woodley. Condit and MacDonald have already fought before, with Condit scoring a dramatic third round victory. There have been rumblings of a Condit/MacDonald rematch for years, but it has never come to fruition.

Assuming that Condit wins against Woodley at UFC 171, I would assume that the UFC will try to do Condit/MacDonald II, especially if the winner of Hendricks/Lawler is out for any length of time with an injury.

Having said that, you can definitely make a case for Condit getting an immediate title shot with a win at UFC 170. After all, who wouldn’t want to see the “Natural Born Killer” get another shot at the title?
