Rory MacDonald made good on his threat earlier today when he reportedly inked a deal with Bellator.

The UFC, which had the option to match MacDonald's offer sheet from Bellator but declined to do so, quickly removed MacDonald from their rankings.

In Rory MacDonald, Bellator gets one of the most talented Welterweight fighters in the world. MacDonald is still young and has a long career ahead of him.

MacDonald never quite got to the top of the mountain in the UFC. He was extremely close to winning the Welterweight title against Robbie Lawler last year, as he was up 3-1 on the judge's scorecards before Lawler ended the fight in the fifth round. Following a recent loss to Stephen Thompson, MacDonald lost quite a bit of his leverage, as he had lost two fights in a row. Bellator seized on this opportunity and inked one of the absolute best fighters in the world to a deal.

After engaging in some of the bloodiest wars in the history of the UFC, Rory became increasingly vocal about his desire to get paid with his next deal. In addition, Rory just welcomed a new addition to his family which has left him thinking more about the future of his family.

The UFC isn't exactly friendly towards fighters that speak up about money, so this may have added to their desire not to re-sign MacDonald to a deal at the terms that Bellator offered. There is no doubt that the UFC would have liked to welcome MacDonald back into the fold, though they clearly weren't willing to offer the type of money that he craved.

So, with that, MacDonald joins the likes of Ben Henderson, Tito Ortiz, Quinton Jackson and Matt Matrione as former UFC fighters who have found a home in Bellator.

MacDonald's signing by Bellator adds instant credibility to their Welterweight division, plus Rory is young enough so that he can still return to the UFC in the future if he so desires.
