MacDonald Likely To Get Title Shot With Victory

The UFC announced earlier this week that Rory MacDonald vs Robbie Lawler has officially been added to UFC 167: St. Pierre vs Hendricks. The card is slated to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 16th, 2013.

MacDonald vs Lawler will very likely serve as the co-main event of the card.

"Ruthless" Robbie Lawler has been a pleasant surprise since returning to the UFC in February of 2013. Lawler surprised many by knocking out Josh Koscheck at UFC 157, and he followed this up with an impressive KO of Bobby Voelker at UFC on Fox: Johnson vs Moraga. Lawler has earned a step up in competition, and he will certainly be getting it against Rory MacDonald.

Rory MacDonald, on the other hand, is coming off of a critically panned performance against Jake Ellenberger. MacDonald used a jab-heavy gameplan to completely shut down Ellenberger en route to a unanimous decision victory. Given the criticism that MacDonald received following the victory, it will be interesting to see what his strategy will be against Lawler.

By positioning this fight on the UFC 167 card, the UFC seems to be indicating that the winner of this fight may get a shot at the winner of Hendricks/St. Pierre.

The problem?

Assuming that MacDonald and GSP both win, the two friends and teammates have already stated that they won't fight each other.

In addition, what happens if GSP loses to Hendricks? You can safely assume that the UFC would grant their biggest star an immediate rematch against Hendricks if that were to occur.

UFC 167 should make for an interesting evening of fights.
