Is This The End of "Big Nog"?

Roy "Big Country" Nelson destroyed Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Nogueira vs Nelson earlier today.

The fight was expected to be an interesting contest between two of the Heavyweight division's top grapplers. In the end, however, Nelson's amazing striking was the difference as he rocked and eventually finished off the legendary Nogueira via a first-round knockout.

With his victory, the 37 year-old Nelson puts an end to a two-fight losing streak that included losses to Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic. Nogueira, on the other hand, has now suffered his second loss in a row and may very well be on his way out of the UFC.

Nogueira is one of the true legends of the sport but his body continues to absorb an exorbitant amount of punishment. In addition to being brutally knocked out, Nogueira has had his arm broken and injured in his last four fights. Nogueira has a tremendous amount of mileage on his body and it's hard to imagine that he will able to continue fighting for much longer.

The big question - where do Nelson and Nogueira go from here?

The fight that many people are now clamoring for is Roy Nelson vs Mark Hunt. The fight makes a great deal of sense both from a stylistic perspective (they are two of the hardest hitting fighters in the UFC) and from a rankings perspective. There was some talk of Hunt possibly fighting Alistair Overeem, but Overeem is currently mending various injuries.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, on the other hand, seems like he may be running out of options. Might the UFC allow Nogueira one last fight in his home country to close out his career? There really doesn't seem to be too many options for Nogueira right now in the Heavyweight division, so I'm really not sure what the UFC would want to do with "Big Nog". There have to be legitimate concerns about Nogueira fighting in the Octagon again - I have a feeling that the promotion may persuade Nogueira to retire after today.

All in all, UFC Fight Night: Nogueira vs Nelson was an entertaining event.
