Nelson Inks New Deal With UFC

The UFC announced a couple of pieces of big news yesterday, and they both involved Heavyweight Roy Nelson.

To start, Roy "Big Country" Nelson has officially inked a new nine fight deal with the UFC. According to Nelson, he will be fighting for the UFC for the rest of his life. There was some talk of Nelson possibly going to Bellator, but this obviously won't happen now.

In addition, the UFC wasted no time in giving Nelson the first fight under his new deal, as the promotion revealed that Roy Nelson vs Daniel Cormier has been added as the co-main event of UFC 166: Velasquez vs Dos Santos 3.

Nelson and Cormier have been exchanging some "pleasantries" over Twitter over the past couple of months, and it looks like they'll now be able to hash out their differences inside of the Octagon.

This is a very important fight for both men, likely more so for Daniel Cormier. If Cormier wins, he win almost certainly fight for a title in his next fight, whether that is a Heavyweight title shot against Dos Santos or a light heavyweight title shot against Jon Jones. Cormier has already said that he has no intention of fighting teammate Cain Velasquez for the title.

Roy Nelson, on the other hand, is coming off of a disappointing loss to Stipe Miocic at UFC 161. Having said that, Nelson took the fight on very short notice, and nobody is holding that loss against him.

Nelson vs Cormier is a very intriguing fight. Odds for the scrap haven't been released as of yet, but you can be sure that Cormier will be the favorite.
