Expect Stronger UFC on Fox Cards in the Future

This weekend's UFC on Fox: Johnson vs Reis card in Kansas City is one of the strongest cards that the UFC has ever featured on Fox.

You have a Flyweight title fight between Demetrious Johnson and Wilson Reis, a very important title contender eliminator fight between Rose Namajunas and Michelle Waterson, as well as an important Middleweight fight between Ronaldo Souza and Robert Whittaker.

In addition, names such as Roy Nelson and Aljamain Sterling are fighting on the undercard. For a televised free event, this card is stacked. As a matter of fact, I can probably only think of one UFC on Fox card that was more stacked, and that was headlined by Ben Henderson vs Nate Diaz.

The King is reading the latest news from the world of Mixed Martial Arts.

WME-IMG has indicated that one of the ways that they will look to extract more value from the UFC is to increase the size of their TV deals. According to multiple reports, the company is going to look to increase their TV rights fees "multiple-fold" in their next round of negotiations.

To help get this done, WME-IMG will likely look to bolster the quality of their free televised events. By cutting back on their total number of events, the organization will be able to stack their free Fox and PPV cards a bit more, which is where the company makes almost all of their money.

At the end of the day, UFC Fight Pass is a great product, though the money that the organization makes from this subscription service is peanuts compared to their PPV revenues and TV rights fees. WME-IMG has rightly decided that they are going to increase the quality of their Fox and PPV cards in order to make more money in the future.

A year or so ago, the UFC was being accused of watering down their product by hosting too many cards.

One of WME-IMG's first moves was to decrease the number of cards that the promotion puts on, which was welcomed by many fight fans. There were too many cards, fans said, where there was just one or maybe two interesting fights.

Now, on this Saturday's Fox card for instance, there are at least three fights that are legitimate and worth tuning in for.

Let's hope that this trend continues in the future. Given WME-IMG's desire to make as much money as possible, you can safely assume that their Fox cards will progressively become more stacked in the future.
