Tyron Woodley Set to Rematch Thompson at UFC 209

Earlier today, Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley revealed that he would be defending his title against Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson at UFC 209. The card, which will likely take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Nevada, will likely be headlined by the Welterweight title rematch.

Woodley and Thompson fought to a memorable majority draw in the co-main event of UFC 205 in November. Most fans assumed that there would be an immediate rematch, though Woodley seemed intent on making himself a "money fight" against somebody like Conor McGregor or Michael Bisping. In the end, however, the right fight was made.

Here is how UFC 209 looks as of this moment:

Tyron Woodley vs Stephen Thompson
Alistair Overeem vs Mark Hunt
Darren Elkins vs Mirsad Bektic
Todd Duffee vs Mark Goodbeer
Iuri Alcantara vs Luke Sanders
Lando Vannata vs David Teymur
Paul Craig vs Tyson Pedro

In addition, an interim Lightweight title fight between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov will likely serve as the co-main event for the card, though it has not been made official as of yet.

The King is reading a report from a sheet of paper. It is about Tyron Woodley ahead of UFC 209. The year is 2017.

This is the second time that Tyron Woodley has attempted to book himself into a "money fight".

Shortly after winning the Welterweight title, Woodley called out both Georges St. Pierre and Nick Diaz for a fight, even though Thompson was the clear #1 contender at the time. Things worked out for Woodley in that instance, as he fought on the same card as Conor McGregor.

This time around, however, things likely won't work out the same for Woodley, as he will be asked to carry the card by himself, which will likely result in significantly less PPV buys.
