Highly Anticipated Rafael dos Anjos vs Tony Ferguson Fight Set To Headline Card

On Saturday evening in Mexico City, the UFC will resume operations following a long layoff.

In this day and age of watered down and frequent UFC events, rarely a weekend goes by when the UFC isn't holding an event. Thanks to a planned hiatus prior to UFC 205, and thanks to the cancellation of the event in the Philippines that was set to be headlined by Ricardo Lamas and BJ Penn, the UFC has gone nearly a month without hosting an event. In this day and age, that is an eternity (though, things may be changing under new ownership, as there will apparently be less events in order to bolster quality).

The main event of this weekend's UFC event, the Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 3 finale, will see Rafael dos Anjos square off against Tony Ferguson in an intriguing Lightweight fight.

Both men can make a claim to a title shot with a win, and both men will fall far down the Lightweight ladder with a loss. With a possible title run by Conor McGregor looming on the horizon in the Lightweight division, both men desperately want to win this fight.

In addition to dos Anjos vs Ferguson, Mexican fans will be treated to other fights including Diego Sanchez vs Marcin Held and Ricardo Lamas vs Charles Oliveira. The fate of the latter fight was in doubt after Oliveira badly missed weight, though the two men agreed to a catchweight fight at 155 pounds, providing that Oliveira at least makes 160 pounds before the fight.

This weekend's card in Mexico will give fans a bit of an appetizer before next week's main course - UFC 205, which is going to be headlined by Conor McGregor vs Eddie Alvarez.
