70,000 People Expected To Watch UFC 193 in Person

On April 30th, 2011, the UFC set a new attendance record when 55,724 people travelled to Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to watch Georges St. Pierre retain his title against Jake Shields.

In the months and years following this card, two of the promotion's biggest stars, the aforementioned GSP and Brock Lesnar, left the promotion. This left people to wonder if the UFC would ever set a new attendance record, or if their best days were behind them.

New stars have since emerged, however, including "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey, who is easily the biggest mainstream star that the UFC has ever had on their roster. Rousey's arrival as a mega-star surely means that the promotion will break its attendance record this weekend.

In total, roughly 70,000 people are expected to turn out to the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia to watch Ronda Rousey take on Holly Holm. What makes this event even more significant is that the main and co-main events will both feature female fighters. If you headed back in time, you would have had a hard time convincing anybody that female fighters would be headlining a stadium show in the year 2015, but that is exactly what is happening this weekend.

Robbie Lawler was originally supposed to headline this event against Carlos Condit, but that fight was scrapped after Lawler suffered a thumb injury. The UFC decided to "go big" instead and move Rousey vs Holm, which was originally scheduled for UFC 195, to the card. By doing so, the UFC virtually guaranteed that they will set a new attendance record.
