The UFC announced earlier this week that they have inked a new multi-year Canadian broadcasting agreement with Bell Media.

The deal will stretch over three of Bell Media's properties - TSN, RDS (French counterpart of TSN) and the Fight Network. According to a press release that was circulated shortly after the deal was announced, Fox Sports 1 events, UFC PPV prelims, UFC Fight Night events and the "Ultimate Fighter" series will air on TSN and RDS. In addition, Fight Network will be broadcasting international Fight Night cards as well as preliminary fights for domestic non PPV cards.

The UFC previously had a broadcast deal with Rogers Sportsnet. Rogers Sportsnet seemed to signal their desire to move away from the UFC when they discontinued UFC Central with Showdown Joe Ferraro earlier in the year.

The UFC has been on a low ebb in Canada in recent months. This is likely largely due to the current hiatus of Georges St. Pierre, who was (and still is) one of the country's most admired athletes.

The UFC had previously stated that Canada was one of their most rabid markets, though their love affair with America's neighbor seems to have waned in recent years. Montreal and Toronto were frequent stops of the promotion previously but were passed over in 2014.

With Rory MacDonald likely to get a title shot in 2014 and Georges St. Pierre possibly nearing a return, Bell Media may be banking on some renewed interest in mixed martial arts in Canada in the years ahead.
