Faber vs Rivera Likely To Take Place on Main Card

The fantastically stacked UFC 181 card, which is set to take place on December 6th, 2014 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, got another injection of talent earlier this week when the UFC revealed that Urijah Faber vs Francisco Rivera has been added to the card.

The placement of Faber vs Rivera on the card hasn't been announced as of yet but there is a decent chance that it could replace Tony Ferguson vs Abel Trujillo as the first fight on the main card.

If that does happen, the main card for UFC 181 would look something like this:

Johny Hendricks vs Robbie Lawler (Welterweight title)
Anthony Pettis vs Gilbert Melendez (Lightweight title)
Travis Browne vs Brendan Schaub
Raquel Pennington vs Holly Holm
Urijah Faber vs Francisco Rivera

UFC 181 will also feature the return of Heavyweight Todd Duffee and the novelty of two brothers fighting on the same card (Anthony, Sergio Pettis).

Urijah Faber is 5-1 in his last six fights with his only loss coming against Renan Barao at UFC 169. Faber is coming off of a victory over Alex Caceres at UFC 175 and is looking to move his way back to a title shot. With Dominick Cruz set to take on TJ Dillashaw for the Bantamweight title, Urijah Faber could find himself on the fast track to another shot at gold if Cruz is able to regain his title. After all, Faber/Cruz III is the rubber match that never happened due to Dominick's injury.

Francisco Rivera has had an uneven go of things in the UFC. He started his UFC career off with a loss to Reuben Duran in June of 2011 but then followed this up with three straight wins. As a matter of fact, Rivera would have had a six fight winning streak had he not tested positive for a banned substance at UFC 149 (this win was subsequently turned into a No Contest).

Rivera is coming off of a loss to Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 173 and is looking to get back into the win column. This will not be an easy task, however, as Urijah Faber is one of the toughest outs in the Bantamweight division.
