NSAC Votes To Ban TRT Use; Belfort Pulls Out of Fight Shortly After

It was a wild and wacky day for the UFC on Thursday.

Early Thursday morning, the NSAC (Nevada State Athletic Commission) voted to ban all TRT (Testosterone Replacement Therapy) use. UFC President Dana White applauded the decision and said that the ban would extend to many different states and countries.

Vitor Belfort, who has been receiving TRT for his last number of fights, is going to be severely impacted by this decision.

As a matter of fact, Belfort pulled out of his planned fight against Chris Weidman earlier tonight due to the NSAC’s decision. Belfort has said that he is planning to go off of TRT and needs time to recover.

Belfort’s loss was Lyoto Machida’s gain, as the UFC has picked Machida to replace Belfort in the next Middleweight title match.

UFC 173, which is set to take place on May 24th, will now be headlined by Lyoto Machida vs Chris Weidman. Machida is coming off of wins against Mark Munoz and Gegard Mousasi, while Weidman has beaten Anderson Silva twice in his last two fights.

So, TRT use has basically been banned in the UFC (unless you are fighting in Brazil), while Vitor Belfort has pulled out of his planned title fight against Chris Weidman at UFC 173, only to be replaced by Lyoto Machida.

This has been an interesting week for the UFC indeed.
