Johny Hendricks vs Robbie Lawler To Headline UFC 171

Earlier today, Georges St. Pierre and UFC President Dana White held a phone conference to reveal that the UFC's biggest draw was stepping away from the Octagon for an indefinite period of time and dropping his Welterweight title.

Georges St. Pierre left the door open for a return, but stated that he would be gone for at least a year. The former Welterweight champion stated that he had some personal issues to deal with, and that he was also getting run down from the grind of being a UFC champion for such a long period of time.

The news was not all that surprising given St. Pierre's statements following his successful title defense against Johny Hendricks at UFC 167. St. Pierre told Joe Rogan after the fight that he would be stepping away from the Octagon for a while, and the champion finally got a chance to clarify his statements earlier today after much speculation.

Speaking of Johny Hendricks, the man who very nearly beat Georges St. Pierre will be squaring off against Robbie Lawler for the vacant Welterweight title at UFC 171. Hendricks vs Lawler is going to headline the card, while Jon Jones vs Glover Teixeira is being moved to UFC 172.

Hendricks vs Lawler will pit two of the Welterweight division's hardest hitters against each other - as a matter of fact, Robbie Lawler may be the only man in the UFC's Welterweight division who hits harder than Johny Hendricks. This should be a great fight.

As for Georges St. Pierre, the former Welterweight champion has earned his rest. The UFC can't be happy about losing their biggest star, but GSP has made the company many millions of dollars over the course of his incredible run.
